THE WISDOM TO SURVIVE - capitalism, climate change, humanity

I have copied the text below in order to share the beliefs and actions of others, who are also concerned about our Earth home and climate change. They express in their own words what they perceive and share the film as a statement about that concern.

"The Dominican Sisters of Hope screen The Wisdom To Survive: Climate Change, Capitalism & Community, a film that examines the challenges that climate change poses and discusses meaningful action that can be taken by individuals and communities.

The Wisdom to Survive accepts the consensus of scientists that climate change has already arrived, and asks, what is keeping us from action? Will we have the wisdom to survive? The film features thought leaders and activists in the realms of science, economics and spirituality discussing how we can evolve and take action in the face of climate disruption. They urge us to open ourselves to the beauty that surrounds us and get to work on ensuring it thrives.

“The issues are huge: climate change, capitalism, poverty, racism, militarism, terrorism,” said Dominican Sister of Hope Bette Ann Jaster, who is the coordinator of the new Co-op for Earthsake at Mariandale. She, along with the Environmental Sustainability Committee, will facilitate the screening this Saturday.

“Our planet won’t be survivable if we don’t do something,”

For the Dominican Sisters of Hope, hosting a community screening of the film is just a step on the path toward ecological justice. They already participated in a march, became beekeepers, created a space for monarch butterflies, as well as their ongoing mission to educate others about earth-friendliness, discuss taking a corporate stance as a group, and work to create an earth-friendly environment at Mariandale.

As the sisters make moves in Westchester County, the church is hoping to make a change on a bigger scale. Pope Francis is scheduled to release an encyclical on the environment and global warming in June 2015, before the next round of U.N. climate talks in Paris in November. He is due to speak in New York at the U.N. in September, and has urged negotiators to be “courageous.”

The Dominican Sisters of Hope will screen The Wisdom to Survive this Saturday, with a group discussion to follow.
